Privacy Policy

What Fineprint does

When you visit a page that appears to be a privacy policy, Fineprint offers to analyze it. If you choose to run an analysis, the extension reads the visible text on that page, processes it against a local keyword database, and displays a risk summary in a sidebar panel.

The results are color-coded into three categories:

• Red High-risk language (e.g. data selling, indefinite retention)
• Yellow Noteworthy clauses worth reading (e.g. third-party sharing)
• Green Positive signals (e.g. explicit user rights, deletion options)

Data processing

All processing is local. The text of the privacy policy page is read by the extension running inside your browser and is never sent to any external server, API, or third party. Fineprint has no backend.

The keyword database used for analysis is bundled with the extension itself and does not require a network connection to function.

Data we do not collect

• Your name, email address, or any account information
• The text content of any page you visit
• Your browsing history or the URLs you visit
• Any analytics, telemetry, or usage data
• Crash reports or diagnostic information

We collect nothing. There are no servers receiving data from this extension.

Local cache

To avoid re-analyzing the same page on every visit, Fineprint stores analysis results in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local). This cache:

• Lives entirely on your device — it is never uploaded or shared
• Is keyed by page URL and contains only the analysis result, not the page text itself
• Can be cleared at any time using the Refresh button in the extension sidebar
• Is automatically removed when you uninstall the extension

Permissions

Fineprint requests the following Chrome permissions:

• Read page content — to extract and analyze the text of privacy policy pages
• Local storage — to cache analysis results on your device

No other permissions are requested or used.

Third parties

Fineprint does not integrate with any third-party services, analytics platforms, advertising networks, or data brokers. There are no third parties involved in the operation of this extension.

Children's privacy

Fineprint does not collect any data from anyone, including children under 13. The extension is suitable for all ages.

Changes to this policy

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a revised effective date. Because we collect no data, changes are unlikely to affect you in any meaningful way.
