Fineprint is a Chrome extension that analyzes privacy policies directly in your browser. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal data. Everything happens locally on your device.
When you visit a page that appears to be a privacy policy, Fineprint offers to analyze it. If you choose to run an analysis, the extension reads the visible text on that page, processes it against a local keyword database, and displays a risk summary in a sidebar panel.
The results are color-coded into three categories:
All processing is local. The text of the privacy policy page is read by the extension running inside your browser and is never sent to any external server, API, or third party. Fineprint has no backend.
The keyword database used for analysis is bundled with the extension itself and does not require a network connection to function.
We collect nothing. There are no servers receiving data from this extension.
To avoid re-analyzing the same page on every visit, Fineprint stores analysis results
in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local). This cache:
Fineprint requests the following Chrome permissions:
No other permissions are requested or used.
Fineprint does not integrate with any third-party services, analytics platforms, advertising networks, or data brokers. There are no third parties involved in the operation of this extension.
Fineprint does not collect any data from anyone, including children under 13. The extension is suitable for all ages.
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be published at this URL with a revised effective date. Because we collect no data, changes are unlikely to affect you in any meaningful way.
